Newcon Optik Astro 4-G2 1,000 MM Maksutov Lens
The Astro 4-G2 is a 1,000 mm catadioptric camera lens & telescope. The 100 mm aperture makes this an f10 camera lens. If you want to start a career as a paparazzi or you just want to take a picture of a grizzly w/o getting intimate, this is the lens for you!
When you want to use it as a lens, you just screw it in to a Pentax screw thread (or an adapter if you don't have an old Pentax). When you're ready to use it as a telescope, screw on the eyepiece adapter & insert the included 32 mm Ploesl eyepiece or any other standard 1-1/4 in. telescope eyepiece.
Optional accessories include a 90-degree erecting prism eyepiece holder & a 9 mm eyepiece. (The lens is pictured w/the 90-degree prism & the eyepiece.) It uses standard 1-1/4 in. eyepieces. It will focus in to 4 meters. The thread mount for the camera is an M42x1 (Pentax screw thread mount). If you do have an old Pentax, this will work perfectly. However, if you have another camera, you'll need an adapter.
Shutter bugs can use this lens as a great, inexpensive Russian scope. This is essentially the same as a normal reflecting telescope, but it is all optically folded into a lens you can hold in your hand! In the interests of full disclosure & for professionals, the specification I don't understand, translated from Russian into fractured English, is: 'Resolution at infinite distance w/films resolving 135 lines/mm, no less than, in lines/mm; in the center -50, in zone- (y=15 mm) 40, at the edges- (y=19 mm) 35. - Focus range: 4 m to infinity
- Magnification: 31 w/32 mm eyepiece (included)
- Field of view: 42 mm
- Angular field of view: 2 degrees, 30 seconds
- Mount: 1/4 in. tripod mount
