Newcon Optik DN-510-2 Day or Night Rifle Scope
This is a night vision system designed from the ground up (I know; I've been waiting 3 years for Newcon to finish the design & production) to be used as both a daylight rifle scope & second generation night vision scope. During the day you use it like a standard rifle scope. For night time, you detach the eyepiece & slip the intensifier on the back of the scope so you have no shift of zero to worry about.
Newcon states that many popular scopes that work on the day/night principal are built around a regular daylight rifle scope. This means that the scope has 11 to 13 lenses, & the light gathering of such a system depends not so much on the diameter of the lens, but on the 4 lenses of the turning system. Realistically, the F- number of the whole unit may be no more than 3.0 at best (which means that 67% of the incoming light is lost), which is not sufficient for night vision technology.
Daylight scopes typically feature narrow fields of view, which utilize only the central area of the image intensifier tube. This means that the night vision device cannot work to its peak performance & has lower resolution at the edges.
Only the DN-510 utilizes a specially designed, unique optical system w/23 multicoated lenses. It delivers more than a 2 to 2.5 times light-gathering ability & a 2 times wider field of view.
