Bowling Ball Siege Mortar
This is an almost exact copy of an 8 in siege mortar from the original plans. The difference is that the bore is slightly larger than 8 inches to accommodate a bowling ball. The complete gun is 100% iron and steel and weighs about one ton.
I have more fun shooting Bowling ball mortars than any other gun. The two best features are that the ball is big enough to see as it flies and, the finger holes in the ball make it whistle like a bomb in all the war movies. Also, you can usually go to a bowling alley and get old balls for free.
In a cannon competition I went to in Eureka, CA, a fellow was shooting over the top of a hill which was 1,000 yards away and more than 800 feet high. We could watch the ball all the way past the hill and hear it scream the whole time.
The 8" siege mortar is offered three ways - as a tube only, tube and parts kit, or completely assembled mortar.
The complete hardware kit contains all the pieces you need to build the bed for the 8" siege mortar. It consists of approximately 1,000 lbs of iron and steel parts. All nuts and bolts are authentic sizes and styles as per the original ordnance drawings. Some fitting is required so you should be familiar with metal working. The assembly time is a day or two.

For liability reasons these are sold as decorative items and the vent is not drilled. If you want to abuse this lovely lawn ornament by sticking 3 oz black powder charges in it, you will have to drill it yourself.
